A number of merit scholarships are available to students who receive high ACT scores, usually in combination with grade point average. These awards can substantially reduce the costs of an undergraduate education and greatly outweigh the expenses associated with rigorous ACT prep. The University at Buffalo, for example, provides scholarships specifically for first-year international students, and award amounts range from $2,000 up to full tuition. The qualifying academic standards for these merit scholarships are a B+ average in secondary coursework and "above average" ACT or SAT scores. The University of Alabama at Birmingham offers several scholarships that are partially based on ACT scores. The annual scholarship amount may be as high as $15,000 (for ACT scores of 30 or higher) or as low as $7,500 (for ACT scores between 20 and 25). Test-takers are encouraged to research all of the scholarship opportunities for which they may be eligible, and incorporate this information into their ACT score goals.

Meet a Lisbon ACT Tutor: Igor R.
Igor R., a New York City native of Russian descent, recently became a member of Manhattan Review's Lisbon team of ACT educators. He taught ACT prep in both group and individual contexts in New York for seven years before moving to Lisbon. His ACT instruction has been repeatedly credited with improving scores to the levels expected by highly selective American universities.
Igor graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and then earned a master's degree in education from Boston College. He has been seamlessly integrated into our Lisbon staff and is quickly becoming one of our most popular and respected ACT teachers. When he's not teaching ACT prep, Igor stays in shape with a grueling physical fitness routine.
