The TOEFL is widely accepted by universities in all of the major English-speaking countries, and some American schools will not consider any other English examination. It is also easy to find available test centers and test dates for the TOEFL internet-based test, and the exam may be taken in Lisbon (see the website of Educational Testing Service for dates). Most importantly, the TOEFL is a high-quality assessment that goes beyond evaluating reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in isolation. TOEFL exercises develop functional communication abilities through synthesis of linguistic areas, which allow test-takers to become comfortable in all of the academic and non-academic situations they will encounter while pursuing their university degrees. Students who receive high TOEFL scores will not encounter obstacles to university admission because of poor language skills, and they will not have to take any basic English courses. Professional TOEFL instruction is the easiest way to fulfill institutional English requirements.
